Candle Safety 101

It's easy to forget that your gorge, delish smelling candle is actually a firey diva and could do some real harm if you don't pay attention to her.

We've put together our top three rules so you don't get burned.

1. Don’t get lit alone. 🔥

That’s a big no-no. 🙅🏻‍♂️ While team Coal and Canary uses heat resistant glasses, she’s still holding an open flame, so don’t leave your burning candle unattended! We recommend enjoying your candle for a maximum of three hours at a time. Like any good diva, working her too hard could cause you some trouble. Burning your candle for longer than 3 hours increases the risk of smoking due to the wick being too long and the flame burning too hot. #themoreyouknow

2. She's perfect just the way she is! 💅🏼

We’ve done the work to make your Coal and Canary candle gorge, so we don’t recommend you put her in another glass container. Not all glass is heat resistant and glass can shatter when exposed to high heat. We’re not about that dangerous lifestyle. SAFETY FIRST! 👩🏽‍🚒

3. Every tree is different — just like our wicks 🌳

Let’s be real, wooden wicks are gorge, but because of their nature they can sometimes be temperamental! Just like how every tree is slightly different, each wooden wick is also slightly different. This is because before our wicks were made, they were trees! Amazing, right? Because our wooden wicks are made with an organic and untreated wood, slight variances in the wood thickness and grain will cause every Coal and Canary candle to burn a little bit differently. Despite these variances, we are firm believers that wooden wicks provide a more unique, luxurious and delightful sensory experience than traditional cotton wicks do.

If you're having issues with your candle then please email Ashley at info@coalandcanary.com and she can help you fix the problem!

BONUS money saving tip!

When you light your Coal and Canary candle try and let it burn until the wax has melted all the way to the edge. This will prevent your candle from tunnelling.

Tunnelling = a waste of wax 👎🏼

Wasted Wax = less burn time 🕯

Fun Fact: The larger the wax pool the stronger the scent throw! 👃🏼
